The 2015 Boca Raton Bowl will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 22, as announced by Boca Raton Bowl executive director Doug Mosley. The game will be televised on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET from FAU Stadium, located on the campus of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.
“This is a date and time that will be very familiar to Boca Raton Bowl fans,” said Mosley. “Our inaugural game was on the Tuesday evening before Christmas and it was a very popular event for families who came out for the afternoon fan fest and kids activities, as well as the hospitality areas and live music. We’ll be in a similar spot in the calendar for this year’s game and it is our hope to make this event an annual holidays tradition in Palm Beach County.”
The first Boca Raton Bowl game was played on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, kicked off at 6 p.m., and was also televised on ESPN. Marshall University, the champion of Conference USA, defeated Northern Illinois University, the champion of the Mid-American Conference 52-23.
“The inaugural Boca Raton Bowl brought a great atmosphere and high level of excitement to our city and we’re looking to build upon that this year,” said Boca Raton Mayor Susan Haynie. “We’re eager to welcome the participating teams and fans to Boca Raton and share with them our extraordinary level of hospitality.”
The 2015 Boca Raton Bowl will have primary tie-ins for teams from the Mid-American Conference and the American Athletic Conference. The bowl week activities are under development but will begin with the arrival of the participating teams on Friday, Dec. 18. The team from the Mid-American Conference will make its headquarters at the Boca Raton Resort and Spa and the American Athletic Conference team will be at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens. Dates, times and sites for the team welcome parties, beach parties, luncheon, pep rallies and other activities will be released at a later date.
“The Boca Raton Bowl returns for a second year in December of 2015 to Palm Beach County,” said Palm Beach County Deputy Administrator Verdenia Baker. “This is a welcomed addition to our destination known for its “Life Style Sports Tourism”. The county-wide economic benefits and the invitation to “Discover the Palm Beaches Florida” with national television audience visibility on ESPN is a powerful statement of the importance of our hospitality and tourism industry. Our partnership with the City of Boca Raton, Florida Atlantic University and ESPN to provide an unforgettable visit to the Palm Beaches for these college student-athletes, their families and their alumni will showcase our destination to potential visitors from across the nation and the world.”
The Boca Raton Bowl is owned and operated by ESPN Events, a subsidiary of ESPN, and has its office at 1515 North Federal Highway in Boca Raton. In addition to the Mid-American Conference and American Athletic Conference, the bowl also has a tie-in with Conference USA.
